The Main Idea of the Article • Responsibilities and duties of the state • Each state has to recognize the laws and court rulings of the other states • States can’t discriminate against citizens of the states • Slaves captured in the north must be returned to their owners in the south • Responsibilities the federal government has toward the states • Prevents states from becoming held under dictatorship • Protects states from foreign war • Helps states overcome uprisings

  3. The Most Important Section/Clause Article 4 Section 1 Clause 1 (Full Faith and Credit) • Each state will abide by each other’s laws • Court rulings • Records (Modern Problems- gay marriage, marijuana legalization, driving age, etc.)

  4. Constitutional Principles Section 2 Clause 1- Republicanism: States cannot single out people of the other states. Section 2 Clause 2- Separation of Powers: If a person that is charged in any state with treason, felony, or any other crimes, and flees from that state and is found in another, the judicial branch will remove the criminal and the person will face trail. Section 3 Clause 2- Separation of Powers: The legislative can remove territories and create laws for them. Section 4 Clause 1- Republicanism, Frederalism: United States federal government must guarantee each state a government that is a Republic. Section 4 Clause 2- Federalism: The federal government must maintain a representative form of government, a state is not allowed to become a dictatorship. The federal government has to promise to protect all the state and come to their aid if under attack.
