Introduction • Your local Art Gallery is featuring an art history exhibit. They want to feature a several poster boards on artists during the movement and some of their works. • You and a partner will work together to develop a poster board to display in the Gallery for the opening night of the exhibition. You have limited knowledge about Impressionism, so you much first learn about the movement, then research artists and their works.
Tasks • Task 1: Explore websites on Impressionism • Task 2: Identify main artists of the movement, write a biography on one. • Task 3:Analyze three works of art from the artist that appeal to you. • Task 4: Create a dynamic poster board for opening night.
ProcessTask 1: Explore • 1. View the video on Impressionism here to get an overview of the Movement. • 2. Check out The Metropolitan Museum of Art Website page on Impressionism. • 3. Check out National Gallery of Art Website • Click on each artist and list of works • 4. Check out Guggenheim Impressionism Website • Explore all clickable links and images
ProcessTask 2: Identify • Identify four main artists of the movement. Click on each artist on the page and write a short biography for one artist of your choice. You may use any of the links on the previous page. • Your biography will be included on your poster board so make sure the font is appropriate size and readable. • Include a picture of the artist.
ProcessTask 3: Analyze • Click on slideshow on the MetMuseum Impressionism web page. Roll your cursor over each image to see information about the work. • Go to the National Gallery of Art web page. Click “Start Tour” to view images and descriptions. Click “Continue Tour” to view the rest of the works. • Find three works of art for your artist that appeal to you. • On your poster board, include the following information (you may want to go back and review the links for images: • A high quality image of the work • Title • Artist • Year • Medium • Subject Matter • Recurring theme (if any)
ProcessTask 4: Create • Create your poster board on paper at least 18x24 inches. Paper will be provided in various sizes. Color and fonts are up to you. • Some basic poster guidelines can be found here. • 2. Title your poster and remember to include your names of group memebers.
