Community Sparks • One contact per community arising from the OS forum - 8 communities • ‘Fanned’through meetings, phone calls and information – time consuming because cultivating relationships is critical to success! • First meeting was with Coalition leadership • Healthy Community Scan as proposed as a successful engagement tool – strengths base
First steps • $1500 micro grants to complete the scan • Recruited an IH employee for each group • Monthly calls with IH Healthy Community Local Liaisons (HCLLs) • Monthly calls with Community Leads
IH Healthy Community Local Liaison HCLLs represent IH interests and provide practical support - through participation along with other community members - to begin work to create a healthy community action plan. Groups will be comprised of local government and community stakeholders.
Group capacity will be built • Coalition will host capacity building workshops • HCLLs and Leaders provided with Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) Community Capacity Building Tool to monitor progress • On-going process
The sparks are now embers • 8 groups 6 active • In process of completing the scans, and analysing the findings • Leaders meeting at UBCO in January • Winter OSHLC Forum will transfer knowledge on research and best practice • $ , capacity building, evaluation support • New action teams (constellations)
