TRANSLATION A transformation that glides all points in a plane the same distance in the same direction is called a translation. Ex.:
TRANSLATIONS CONT. Translations are best expressed as movements on a coordinate plane with specific changes in the x and y coordinates. This is modeled below: T : ( x, y) ⇾ ( x+3, y - 5) This translation represents a positive 3 movement on the x and a negative 5 movement on the y from T to T’.
EXAMPLE If point P is at (4, 2) apply the following transformation, T: ( x, y ) ⇾ ( x – 5, y+6), to find (a) the image of P and (b) the preimage of P. • (-1, 8) • (9, -4)
GLIDE REFLECTION A glide reflection is a combination of a translation (glide) and a reflection. Examples will be outlined in the following:
