  6. About Brian Mason • Microsoft ConfigMgr MVP • Works for WELL known financial corporation • Runs MNSCUG (not in a user group? Talk to me!) • Runs 350K clients on CM07; CM12 in the lab only • Has run CM since SMS 2.0 days • Hasn’t skydived all year so he’s grumpy • But his primary sites are happy!

  7. Session Agenda • Primary site considerations • Easing the load on primary sites • What MP replicas are • Demo: Let’s make a replica!

  8. Redundancy Considerations • Primary site considerations • CAS vs Primary • Uptime and BCP considerations

  9. Offloading roles • Offload all IIS related roles first • Offloading the MP role doesn’t offload all client requests as a hit; the MP still has to ask SQL on the primary for information like what package is on what DP.

  10. The MP Replica Why bother with MP replication? • Even with CM12, the new replication model doesn’t involve MP traffic • Old CM07 benefits the same way • Don’t offload SQL replica to a single DB

  11. MP Replicas - better

  12. MP Replicas - best

  13. SQL Considerations • MP needs SQL installed • SQL STD is free on CM boxes • So are the other SC products, BTW! • SQL install tips: • Always use a configuration file • Always slipstream SPs and CUs • Always cap memory on SQL • SQL12 offers an overall 10% boost

  14. Demos • Following this excellent online replica document, let’s build an MP Replica • http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh846234.aspx
