TEKS §112.12. Science, Grade 1 b) Knowledge and skills. (10) Organisms and environments. The student knows that organisms resemble their parents and have structures and processes that help them survive within their environments. The student is expected to: (D) observe and record life cycles of animals such as a chicken, frog, or fish.
There once was a mama frog, who was ready to have her babies. She searched high and low ‘til she found the right place to lay her eggs.
After she was done, the spawn was left all alone under a tree with draping branches .
As days went by, the eggs became embryos. Time continued to pass and the embryos started growing weary of being contained.
Seven days have now passed an only one embryo remains… The rest were taken away by fish or dried up by the sun.
The one little embryo that was left hatched and became a tadpole!
Weeks and weeks passed by and the tadpole continued to grow… Finally week nine arrived and the tiny tadpole started growing legs!
Weeks went on and the little tadpole was still growing. Week twelve arrived and something amazing happened… the little tadpole became a froglet!
As time passed, the little froglet was still growing and growing.
Now sixteen weeks have gone by and again something amazing has happened... the little froglet became a little frog!
To this day the little frog is still growing and jumping and playing in the same pond she was born in. In fact, she is now searching for a place to lay her eggs!
And what better a place to lay them than the place she grew up? And so the cycle begins again!
