Background of Connector Scenario for Worst Case proposalSimulations for the 10GbE Base SR (850nm, 50µm-MM-Fiber) • In the Modeling for the specification of the 10GBit/s transmission on the 50µm multimode fiber was used the following statistics for the connector offsets: (see Pepeljugoski et.al., JLT, Vol.21, No.5, May 2003, p.1256) Rayleigh Distribution of connector offsets: Mean value of 3,58µm, Probability of exceeding 7µm offset is: 5% This distribution is used for the current worst case model.

Background of Connector Scenario for Worst Case proposalIdea of a Set of Different Connector Offsets • The combination of short – long – short fibers with 4 connectors seems to be a standard application configuration • The selected worst case should have a low but reasonable probability for the selected set of offsets. • If one 7µm offset connector has p=0.05 than a set of 4 connectors with 7µm offset have the probability of p= 0.054 = 6 x10-6 which is extremely low. • Therefore we chose the offset of the second connector at a value where two connectors of the same offset have the probability of p=0.05, • The third offset at the value for three connectors with same offset of p=0.05, • And similar for the fourth offset.
