  2. Team Planning Day

  3. The Proposal • Energy Content (specific links to curriculum, activities, investigate personal and industrial use of energy and the development of sustainable energy sources) • Community Partners (schools etc. to promote personal responsibility) • Student Leadership (present to community partners, Green Team, opportunities for advocacy) • Goals (realistic and measurable, sustainable) • Project Evaluation (evidence, specific indicators of student learning) • Budget (How will we spend $10, 000?)

  4. Fantastic Bioplastic: What impact can one individual have on the environment? • … is a project that will focus on energy conservation, waste reduction and raising consciousness around petroleum use and preservation. What is bioplastic? What does bioplastic have to do with petroleum? How can one person’s choices effect the environment both locally and globally? These are some of the guiding questions that will drive a yearlong cross-curricular inquiry for four classes of Grade ¾ students at West Dalhousie School. Students will explore the complete lifecycle of a product from plant growth and bioplastic production, to biodegradation and composting of biodegradation and composting of bioplastic products. Past industrial practices, current green technologies and innovations will be compared and considered as students come to their own understanding of energy conservation and its importance. By sharing their learning about bioplastics, environmentally friendly products, and waste reduction with the community students shall promote personal responsibility, community involvement and citizenship.
