  2. Prohibition • Prohibition is the law that prohibited the consumption of alcohol. • The 18th amendment prohibited the manufacture, sale, etc of alcohol. • The law was put into place by reform groups against drinking. • Caused a national disturbance.

  3. Causes Of Prohibition • Medical: It was bad for other’s health. • Economic: workers got drunk and weren’t performing correctly. • House Hold: the amount of liquor consumed by men created conflict at home. • led women to lead anti- saloon groups.

  4. Dangers Of Homebrew • People tried to make their own homebrewed alcohol. • It endangered people because of the ingredients. • Which included fossil oil, found in explosives. • Doctor’s wrote over 10 million “medicinal” prescriptions per year.

  5. Speakeasies/ Saloons • Created to supply the needs of citizens who wanted alcohol. • Developed hidden bars to supply people in large groups at once. • Easy way to get around the law • Most of liquor supplied by saloons and speakeasies were attained by organized crime.

  6. Crime Affiliated with Prohibition • Organized crime • Some gangs fought to keep the customers • The amount of money attained by prohibition: Illegal alcohol: $3.5 Billion.

  7. Outcome Of Prohibition • Was not successful • After a while the rebellion was acknowledged. • The 18th amendment was applied • The 21st amendment made alcohol legal but only if it was manufactured and made in America.
