Mathematics at High Storrs Faculty 2: Maths, Computing & Enterprise • KS5 Information Evening Course Details: A-Level Mathematics (1 qualification) Choice to make: Statistics or Mechanics Exams: Y12 – Pure Maths (C1, C2) and Optional unit (S1 or M1) Y13 – Pure Maths (C3, C4) and Optional unit (S2 or M2) All exams are 1 hour 30 and you may use a calculator in all but C1 Time Allocation: 5 hours per week (plus homework!) Course Details: A-Level Further Mathematics(2 qualifications) Choice to make: None – you will complete Statistics and Mechanics units Exams: Y12 – Pure Maths (C1, C2, C3 & C4) and Applied (S1 & M1) Y13 – Pure Maths (FP1 & FP2) and Applied (S2, S3, M2, M3) All exams are 1 hour 30 and you may use a calculator in all but C1 Time Allocation: 8 hours per week in Y12, 7 hours per week in Y13 (plus homework!)

All courses are very demanding and will require a great deal of hard work if you are going to succeed.

The best advice to give you now is that you should think about what you would like to study at University and maybe where you would like to study. Then have a look at the websites and find out what the entry requirements are, especially what the desired or recommended subject options are. Mathematics is a very demanding course, if you are thinking about Maths or Further Maths, talk to your teachers and ask them if you might be suitable.

Mathematics at High Storrs Faculty 2: Maths, Computing & Enterprise • KS5 Information Evening Why should I study Maths at High Storrs? • Very strong department: • Experienced , enthusiastic and well qualified staff. • Study support available at all times – particularly around module exams. • In Y13, we have 6 students studying Further Maths and 29 students studying Maths • In Y12, we have 18 students studying Further Maths and 56 students studying Maths • Results: • 99% pass rate over the last 5 years, • 2013 Results: 83% grades A*-B at A-Level and 85% A*-B at Further Maths! • MLE: • We’ve invested heavily in the MLE and purchased online textbooks for all modules, • All past papers, revision materials and much more on class sites. • Enrichment Activities: • Senior Maths Challenge & Senior Team Challenge • Trips to Maths talks in other cities • Maths reading books, (45 members of Maths Book Club!) • Students offered opportunities to attend Advanced Problem Solving classes with Sheffield University • Mymaths • Specialist School in Maths and Computing • Part of the Maths, Computing and Enterprise Faculty
