  2. Introduction • Initiated as part of a European Commission Research Project • Adopted and Developed by the Cabin Safety Research Technical Group • Funding from Transport Canada, CAA, and FAA

  3. Purpose The prime purpose of the database is to provide a tool to assist in the study of past accidents in order to contribute towards the goal of continuous improvement in aircraft safety

Purpose Safety Research • Some of the research carried out to date using the CSRTG Accident Database • A Study of the Factors influencing the Evacuation of Occupants in fire related Accidents – Transport Canada • An Analysis of Structural Factors influencing the Survivability of Occupants in Aeroplane Accidents – UK CAA • Trends in Occupant Survival in Aircraft Accidents – Transport Canada

Purpose Benefit Analyses • Benefit Analyses carried out to date using the CSRTG Accident Database • A Benefit Analysis For Nitrogen Inerting Of Aircraft Fuel Tanks • A Benefit Analysis for Aircraft 16g Dynamic Seats • A Benefit Analysis For Cabin Water Spray Systems And Enhanced Fuselage Burnthrough Protection • A Benefit Analysis For Enhanced Protection from Fires in Hidden Areas on Transport Aircraft • A Benefit Analysis for the Installation of Automatically Disposable Hatches

  6. Key Features of the Database • Database Software: • Search facility • word search on text • field search

  7. Key Features of the Database • Database Software: • Written in Visual Basic to ensure compatibility with other Microsoft products – Excel, Word, etc.

  8. Key Features of the Database • Data: • Fields populated by data published by the Authorities.

  9. DatabaseContent • Passenger & Cargo operations on aircraft Type Certificated with more than 19 seats • Version 24 of the Database contains: • 2,894 Accidents - period 1967 to 2002 • 841 with textual fields • 386 with textual data from accident reports
