Cascading Style Sheets • flexible and accurate way to apply appearance changes globally on your site • consistent look an dfeel • heightened typography control • only supported by 4.0 and greater browsers • beauty of style sheets = once you’ve assigned a style sheet to a page or pages, you can edit the style and effect hundreds of changes in your site in minutes

  3. 3 types of CSS • custom styles • create a unique style that can be applied to a range or block of text • HTML tag styles- • assign new default formatting attributes to a spcific HTML Tag • CSS selector styles: • assign new default formatting for a specific combination of tags- for example, creating a style that applies to a bold tag only when it appears inside a table cell

Applications of CSS • external style sheets • separate documents thath contain styles you create. permits sweeping changes by editing a single file • internal style sheets • code within a particular web page • change only affects that page • embedded • only application of style attribute into the HTML tag • entered directly in the code
