Structure of the assessment • Information in the module plan explaining the process and requirements in week 1 • Practice weekly during the semester • Assessments were undertaken in teaching week 10
The assessment • Students were allocated a timeslot randomly • On arrival students were given a ‘GP referral letter’ which had some details about the client they were about to assess • Students had 15 minutes to read the letter and consider their approach
The assessment • After the 15 minutes they had a chance to ask clarifying questions • The assessment took place in a private counselling room with integrated CCTV camera • Each student had 8 minutes to assess the patient and then 2 minutes for self-assessment
Self assessment • During the module students were advised to use the 2 minutes to • Provide rational for approach • Highlight supporting literature • Reflect on performance
