Salts – Why is the ocean “salty”? • Water evaporates, leaving the salt behind • Rivers carry minerals from the land into the ocean • Ocean water seeps into cracks in the crust and Hydrothermal vents carry the superheated water back up, bringing minerals from the crust with it 2. Dissolved Oxygen and other gases/solids • Photosynthesis -> increases the dissolved Oxygen levels • Respiration -> increases the dissolved CO2 levels • Other ions also exist in the ocean – creating???
