  1. Botulinum Toxin injections for Dystonia and Spasticity. Friday October 17th 2014 10:00am - 3:00pm Programme developed by Dr Fiona Molloy, Clinical Director of the Botulinum Toxin Clinic for Neurological Disorders, Beaumont Hospital. Course Description: Since its introduction in the late 1980s, botulinum toxin (BoNT) therapy has become the first line treatment for focal dystonias and is more recently an approved treatment for upper limb spasticity. This workshop is aimed at clinicians and other health care providers who wish to start BoNT and users wanting to improve their skills. There will be two sessions: • The first one will cover theory with lectures and topics including: the diagnosis of dystonia video discussion; BoNT biology; anatomy for injection users:BoNT targeted injections in the management of dystonia and spasticity; practical strategies and techniques to deliver and monitor BoNT treatment effectively. • The second session will comprise live case demonstrations in a small interactive group. Patients with various focal dystonias and upper limb spasticity will attend for BoNT injections. Each case will be reviewed with the group; the management and injection techniques will be discussed.  Royal College of Physicians Continuing Professional Development Credit An application for CPD points has been submitted to the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland Learning Objectives • Diagnose and manage dystonia and upper limb spasticity • Discuss the biology of botulinum toxins and how they work for dystonia and spasticity • Develop treatment plans including identification of muscles, type of BoNT to use, doses, adverse effects, adjuvant therapy, future developments • Injection technique including use of EMG • Improve the running of a BoNT clinic This workshop is sponsored by IPSEN Pharmaceuticals Ltd Venue: Clinical Neurophysiology Department, Lower Ground Floor, Beaumont Hospital Course Directors: Dr Fiona Molloy, Consultant Neurophysiologist, Beaumont Hospital, Dublin.
