Botulinum Toxin injections for Dystonia and Spasticity. Friday October 17th 2014 10:00am - 3:00pm Programme developed by Dr Fiona Molloy, Clinical Director of the Botulinum Toxin Clinic for Neurological Disorders, Beaumont Hospital. Course Description: Since its introduction in the late 1980s, botulinum toxin (BoNT) therapy has become the first line treatment for focal dystonias and is more recently an approved treatment for upper limb spasticity. This workshop is aimed at clinicians and other health care providers who wish to start BoNT and users wanting to improve their skills. There will be two sessions: • The first one will cover theory with lectures and topics including: the diagnosis of dystonia video discussion; BoNT biology; anatomy for injection users:BoNT targeted injections in the management of dystonia and spasticity; practical strategies and techniques to deliver and monitor BoNT treatment effectively. • The second session will comprise live case demonstrations in a small interactive group. Patients with various focal dystonias and upper limb spasticity will attend for BoNT injections. Each case will be reviewed with the group; the management and injection techniques will be discussed.
