Recently, the European Commission has taken several initiatives to increase consumer fire safety. But did you know that … www.europeanfireacademy.eu
Every year, more than 7 million fires are registered worldwide? Every year, more than 70.000 people in the world die in a fire– (among this figure every 10th fatal casualty is a child?)60% of EU citizens are exposed to a fire during their lifetime 25 to 20% of fires have an electrical cause www.europeanfireacademy.eu
How can the European Commission assess its fire prevention policy and that of the Member states? www.europeanfireacademy.eu
When will the European Commission take an initiative to initiate a system for the collection of European fire statistics ? www.europeanfireacademy.eu

We offer to support the Commission to harmonise data collection across Europe www.europeanfireacademy.eu
Electrical problems Presentation from Jonathan Manson - European Copper Institute Electricity & Energy Project Advisor www.europeanfireacademy.eu
Description of possible actions www.europeanfireacademy.eu
Possible actions 2008 • Focusing on good practices in electrical fires • Helping fire services and stakeholders to better identify electrical fires (training of fire examiners, difference between electric wirings and devices, methodological guidelines,…), • Agreeing on an harmonised definition of this kind of fires in order to harmonise and collect statistics at EU level, • Identifying normalisation / recommandation work for electric wirings and devices • Suggesting periodic monitoring of electric wirings to avoid different wiring levels throughout Europe www.europeanfireacademy.eu
Possible actions 2009-2010 • Providing the Commission with support to initiate data collection process www.europeanfireacademy.eu
