Michael Jordan(1963-- ) • American professional basketball player, considered by many to be the greatest player in basketball history. John Michael Landy (1930-- ) • Australian athlete, and the second runner, alter England's Sir Roger Bannister, to break the four-minute mile. He did so in 3 minutes 58 seconds in 1954, two months after Bannister set his mark.
British physician and the first athlete in history to run a mile in less than 4 min. At a meet in Oxford on May 6, 1954, Bannister ran the mile in 3 min 59.4 sec, establishing a world record.
