  2. Who Cares? • What does the advancement of the mobile phone have to do with history in the United States?

I Care (thesis) • With the advancements of the mobile phone more people have been able to communicate while they are active and cell phones have been behind many things in history since their creation. They have saved lives and destroyed them. Cell phones have taken over the business world and become a must have item in order to be successful. With the mobile phone communication has strengthened and in today’s society instant communication is what is most wanted.

  5. What is it? • A cellular device is a electronic device used to make mobile telephone calls across a wide geographic area.

  6. Causes Behind the Device • Be able to communicate while mobile • In search of cordless telephone • Competition between telephone providers • Available technology

  7. Impact on United States • About 66% of Americans own a cellular device • Mobile phones are one of the main sources of communication • Statistics show that in one month alone Americans spent 657 billion minutes talking on mobile phones

  8. Pre-21st Century America • The invention of the mobile phone shows the determination of the U.S. to be dominant in technology • Open up a whole new way of communicating with the rest of the world • The creation of a device that revolutionized the business world.

  9. Factual Question • How much radiation does the average cell phone emit? (importance: Americans worried about radiation/health)

  10. Factual Answer • In order for a cell phone to be released on the market it must emit less than 1.6W/kg radiation.

  11. Factual Question • When was texting added to mobile devices? (importance: one of most used methods of communication)

  12. Factual Answer • Texting was first invented in December 1992 by Neil Papworth, a 22 year-old test engineer at the time for Sema Group.

  13. Critical Question • What will be the next major advancement in communication?

  14. Critical Answer • With today’s instant gratification people are always wanting the newest and fastest phone. I feel that the next advancement will be a device for communication that requires nothing but the use of the owners brain power.

  15. Critical Question • How does the mobile phone compare with the public pay phone?

  16. Critical Answer • Before mobile phones were popular you could find public pay phones everywhere. Now in today’s society it is very rare to find a pay phone in major cities in the United States and some children are growing up not even knowing what a pay phone is.
