TPC/FASTT • T- Title • Before reading the poem, try to figure out what the poem is going to be about by just looking at the title
TPC/FASTT • P-Paraphrase • After reading the poem, now paraphrase the poem line by line or stanza by stanza
TPC/FASTT • C-Connotation F-Figurative language • In order to figure out the connotation of a word, we must look at the figurative language being used in the poem. • Look for literary devices and diction

TPC/FASTT • S-Shifts • Are there any shifts in the tone or the action? • How do these shifts effect the poem?
TPC/FASTT • T-Title • Now that you have broken the poem down, go back and look at the poem’s title • Reevaluate what you thought the title meant in the first step. • Do you still agree with what you said at first?
