  2. Job Overview • Dentists provide the service of cleaning teeth but they also go much deeper into the wonderful world of teeth. Dental work involves fixing and repairing teeth, cosmetic work, and lends aid with the medical aspect of teeth. • Dentists have to be able to relate to their patients on a personal level. Since they work with people ranging from scared infants to the elderly. • Dental work is done in an office setting on a regular five days a week, eight hours a day timeline. • Although Dentistry seems like an easy job field to get into it involves many long laborious hours of standing and the Dentist needs immense coordination.

Why are you interested in this career? • I am interested in this career because I like to work with people and I have always enjoyed the idea of setting my won working hours. • Being my own boss has always intrigued me. With this job I could do that and still make very good money. I have strength with relating to people and I also like to help people out so this job would probably be a great choice for me.

  4. Education Pathway • For admittance into dental school you need to complete a four year bachelors degree then on top of that dental school is usually another four years. • The dental industry is a tough nut to crack and is a very competitive program to get into. • Some fine institutions that provide a school of dentistry are UBC Dental Hygiene Degree Program, the Doctor of Dental Surgery at the University of Toronto. • You’re looking at about 4-5 years of school and it is a massive financial commitment.

  5. Salary and Future Outlook • You can expect to earn $71.70 per hour. • Dental work will always be in demand as long as we have teeth. 

Working Conditions • Dental work is done in the comfort of an office setting and you can expect dress nicely but not be stuck in a monkey suit all day. • Often dental offices are private therefore the dentists can set their own hours of work. In some cases a dentist may be called into the office encase of emergency.

  7. Related Occupations • If this career didn’t pan out for me I would probably look into a career in medicine or business. • . I have always had a passion for animal and I love being outside so maybe I would look into a career involving animals or a job where I could run around outside all day, bombing through the bush.
