Note: Changes to the configuration are needed to Upgrade • You will use the Upgrade Advisor Tool provided on the Lab to identify changes needed • You will notify training@datacore.com when you have completed the course attaching the checklist to the email • You will end with a fully functional SANsymphony-V configuration
List of Documents • You have been provided with the package called SSV_Upgrade_Materials.zip which contains: • 01_Read_First.pptx (this PPT presentation) • 02_SSV8.1PSP1Upgrade Guide.pdf • 03_Hot_Upgrade_Appendix_v2.xls • 04_Student Guide for DataCore Virtual Training Site.pdf
Review the Upgrade Guide • Read the Upgrade Guide in its entirety to be familiar with the upgrade process before you start the real Hot Upgrade of the Remote environment. • The upgrade guide is the attached document “02_SSV8.1PSP1Upgrade Guide.pdf”
Connecting to the Lab Environment • Read the document “04_Student Guide for DataCore Virtual Training Site.pdf” in its entirety. • This document contains the instructions to connect to the Lab environment. • Use the URL, Userid and Password in the email sent to you to connect to the Lab environment.
Check and start up the Lab environment: 1 of 3 • On the Datacore Server’s Desktop is a SSV Upgrade Folder containing the Upgrade Advisor.msi and the SANsymphony-V 8.1 PSP1 Update 1. (SANsymphony sample shown here)
Check and start up the Lab environment: 2 of 3 • Open DataCore MPIO on Server B to verify all paths are available to all Virtual Volumes. • Open IOmeter using the folder on the Desktop, select ONLY the mirrored volumes. (SANsymphony sample shown here)
Check and start up the Lab environment: 3 of 3 • Select Access Specifications, and double-click Default • Set Transfer Delay to 10000, click OK and Assign this workload. Then START the IOmeter workload
About the Upgrade • Do NOT open any GUI’s unless specifically instructed to. • The Upgrade Guide has steps for backing up the Boot drive (Appendix A), it is NOT necessary in this lab environment. • This Lab uses iSCSI, upgrading Fibre Channel environments are the same.
Planning the Upgrade • Use “02_SSV8.1PSP1Upgrade Guide.pdf” to identify all items that need pre-upgrade and post upgrade re-configuration • Fill out the 03_Hot_Upgrade_Appendix_v2.xls checklist with those items that require reconfiguration. • The “03_Hot_Upgrade_Appendix_v2.xls” checklist will also give you general guidance on reconfiguration steps.
Upgrade Customer Expectations for Lab • Existing Data must be retained on ALL volumes • A Linear Vvol is OK to be upgraded to 3PAP, we have storage • A Standard Mirror is OK to be upgraded to 3PAP • The data on the Snapshot MUST be retained
Start the Upgrade • You can start the Upgrade of the Lab according to the instructions in Upgrade Guide. • The Upgrade Advisor tool will also confirm what items require reconfiguration before upgrading. • Please complete the 03_Hot_Upgrade_Appendix_v2.xls during the upgrade. • Post-Upgrade, use the the 03_Hot_Upgrade_Appendix_v2.xls to restore settings to thresholds, port roles, etc.
Desired End Result • You completed the Hot Upgrade to SANsymphony-V. • Both DataCore Servers are Up and Running • The Host was able to send I/O to the Mirror virtual disks without any interruption. • FORWARD your Training Confirmation e-mail to training@datacore.com with the subject “Training Hot Upgrade Done” containing your comments about the upgrade as well as the completed and zipped 03_Hot_Upgrade_Appendix_v2.xls. • The Training Team will review the running HA lab and verify all data is present over the next day and inform you of the result.
