  2. Description • Food Allergy is an abnormal response to a food, triggered by the body’s immune system. • When a person with a food allergy eats the food containing the allergen, a chain of chemical reactions can be triggered, causing inflammation and irritation in the skin, digestive and respiratory systems. Most allergic reactions occur within 30 minutes of consuming the problem food.

  3. symptoms • The most common food allergy symptoms include: • Tingling or itching in the mouth • Hives, itching or eczema • Swelling of the lips, face, tongue and throat, or other parts of the body • Wheezing, nasal congestion or trouble breathing • Abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea or vomiting • Dizziness, lightheadedness or fainting

  4. Treatment • The best treatment for food allergies is to avoid the food that causes the allergy. When that isn’t possible, you can use medicines such as antihistamines for mild reactions and the medicines in an allergy kit for serious reactions.

  5. Prevention Tips • The best way to prevent an allergic reaction is to know and avoid foods that cause signs and symptoms. For some people, this is a mere inconvenience, but others find it a greater hardships.
