  3. Part I- Faculty Portfolios

  4. What is a portfolio? • A collection of evidence used to assess learning and growth • It can take several forms but we will focus mainly on e-portfolios today • Much of the literature comes from K-12

  5. Why would I want to develop a portfolio? • Self-improvement • Self-assessment • Assessment by others • Professional Development • Learn new skills • Improve teaching • Display activities for others

  6. How do I get started? • Think about your audience and purpose • Choose a format • Choose a theme • Assemble materials • Learn new skills • Plan to spend a lot of time!!

  7. Choosing Content • CV and contact information • Teaching • Teaching Philosophy • List of courses, syllabi, example assignments • Results of evaluations • Research • Ability to use multi-media • Might be useful to include when submitting grants • Service • University • Community

  8. Assessing the portfolio • Review by peers • Provide the criteria you are interested in being evaluated on • Approach junior and senior colleagues • Rubrics are available- http://www.uwstout.edu/soe/profdev/eportfoliorubric.html • Self-reflection • Can be used to improve teaching

  13. What is a portfolio? • A collection of evidence used to assess learning and growth • It can take several forms but we will focus mainly on e-portfolios today • Remember to allow students plenty of time!!

  14. Why would I want students to develop a portfolio? • Assess growth across the semester • Encourage integration of knowledge • Encourage self-assessment and self-regulated learning by making the students active learners • Teach new skills • Develop product for potential employers to view
