Commissioning for Value Packs – Pilot in Yorkshire and Humber • Built on previous work to look at value through intelligence • Spend and Outcome tool • DH Health Investment packs • Work with Right Care in Derby
Our approach Looked at indicators of spend, outcome and quality across all programmes of care and identified priority programmes • Encouraged emergent CCGs to • Sense check • Compare with existing plans and priorities • Think about the whole picture • Take an intelligence driven approach

Our approach Looked at indicators of spend, outcome and quality across all programmes of care and identified priority programmes • Encouraged emergent CCGs to • Sense check • Compare with existing plans and priorities • Think about the whole picture • Take an intelligence driven approach Worked with Right Care to offer training and coaching in using intelligence to drive transformation
The five stages of grief Adapted from Elisabeth Kübler-Ross 5 stage model (Though more modern grief theories such as that of John Bowlby described as ‘ebb and flow of processes such as shock and numbness, yearning and searching, disorganization and despair, and reorganization’ have some attraction) DENIAL ANGER BARGAINING DEPRESSION RESOLUTION The data is wrong It does not apply to me I will get the correct data There is nothing I can do about it Acceptance and action Source: East Midlands Quality Observatory
Programme deep dives – preparing to act – key elements • CCGs identified programmes to look at further • Commitment to use intelligence to drive transformation • Clinical, commissioning, business intelligence and public health engagement • Local intelligence • Quantifying potential impact – how ambitious to be • Analysis at practice level
Programme deep dives - bringing in local intelligence • Have the plans worked? • Testing the size of the opportunities identified • Links to identified needs of the population • JSNA • Unmet need • Inequalities • Preventative activity
What happened? • Half of the CCGs in the patch took up the offer of a deep dive – all chose respiratory or CVD initially • Opportunities identified used in transformation programmes and QIPP • Half of CCGs in the patch have received training in the Right Care approach to transformation • Four CCGs have embedded this approach • Many more evidenced this approach as part of ‘clear and credible plans’
Right Care for Populations • The NHS Right Care website offers resources to support CCGs in adopting this approach: • online videos and ‘how to’ guides • casebooks with learning from previous pilots • tried and tested process templates to support taking the approach forward • advice on how to produce “deep dive” packs locally to support later phases, within the CCG or working with local intelligence services • access to a practitioner network • Follow Right Care online • Subscribe to get a weekly digest of our blog alerts in your inbox, • Receive occasional eBulletins • Follow us on Twitter @qipprightcare Find the full series at: www.rightcare.nhs.uk/resourcecentre
