Tutorial Core Collections Complete support.ebsco.com
Looking to build or weed your library collection? Core Collections Complete is a great resource for collection development library staff. Interface features help you browse award-winning books, see recently added books, get ideas for book displays lists, and easily access the Core Collections selection policy. In this tutorial, we will conduct a basic search and review some of the browsing options.
Let’s begin by conducting a basic search. Enter your terms in the search box. Note that the Autocomplete feature anticipates your search terms, and relevant results appear in the drop-down menu. Select from the list or finish entering your terms and click the Search button to get your results.
By default, search results appear in order of publication date, with newest titles listed first; however, you can also sort articles by author, book title, recommendation level or relevance. Narrow your results by Source Type, Subject, Publication Date, and more.
Select a result to view the Detailed Record. Here you can read an abstract, find similar books, or get a list of other titles written by the same author. The Tools menu gives you options to print, email or save the record, or add it to your personal folder for later retrieval. Click a subject term to generate a new list of search results or the Reviews of this Title link for a list of book reviews.
Book reviews are usually available in HTML or PDF Full Text. Choose the Full Text link to access the complete article. From the Full Text screen, use the Tools Menu to Print, E-mail, Cite,Export, or Add the result to your Folder. You can print or save PDF Full Text by using the icons found in the Adobe Reader toolbar.
In addition to searching with keywords, you can browse Core Collections by featured content. Scroll through a carousel of book covers at the top of the home page for titles most recently added to the database. The Recent Additions carousel is updated automatically whenever new titles are added to the database. The Featured Review and Featured Star titles are updated weekly.
You can also browse Core Collections content by category. For example, if you wish to add more award-winning titles to your library collection, click the Award Winners link for a list of recommendations. Looking for the newest YA titles? Click the Teen link. You can also browse by age level, genres and more.
The Reference Shelf includes links to Core Collections Selection Process and Policy documents, Support FAQs, and EBSCO’s Curriculum Standards Module which helps educators in the U.S. and Canada to correlate EBSCO content quickly and easily to national, state, and provincial curriculum standards.
If at any time you wish to return to the home screen, click the Core Collections logo. To view the complete online Help system, click the Helplink at the top right of your screen.
