Chapter 1: Christology (c’t) • Jesus of faith: the conviction that he was the Son of God, eventually led to the belief that he was God (Jn.1:1) • The struggle then and now is to find the language to understand this profound concept. However, Jesus promised not to leave the apostles (nor those to follow in faith) orphaned. Read Jn.14-17 on the role of the Holy Spirit *

How Do We Learnabout Jesus? • Major source: The Gospels • The people who have studies the Gospels and give us the “fruits” of their labors: Biblical Scholars & Theologians • The Text in which their findings may be found is the Jerome Biblical Commentary.
The Christian Scriptures • Old Testament- ecumenical reference is to say the Hebrew Scriptures • The New Testament (Covenant)- - Begins with the Gospels - Acts of the Apostles (Luke Acts) and then - The Epistles (letters) writings of St. Paul - Other letters referred to as the Catholic Letters • There are 27 books in the NT • These books are in the canon *

It is generally agreed by historians that it refers to Jesus.
