  1. Components of DDI: Designing & Delivering Effective Instruction

  2. Objective My understanding of what the students are to learn, and what activity they will perform at the end of the lesson to demonstrate that learning took place.

  3. Set An activity or question that I’ve designed to have students bring ideas from their background that will help them focus on the upcoming lesson.

  4. Purpose Helping students understand the reason (importance) for learning the objective.

  5. Input I will provide all the necessary information to the students so that they can achieve the learning. I will use various strategies to deliver this information to my students.

  6. Model I will demonstrate how and what the student’s learning will look like when done correctly.

  7. Check for Understanding The questions/ activities that I have prepared in advance for students to answer to show that they have understood the information they learned in today’s lesson.

  8. Guided Practice An opportunity for students to do--again and again--what they have learned. I will provide feedback to let them know if they are correct or incorrect.

  9. Independent Practice An opportunity for students to do--again and again--what they have learned, but this time it’s on their own.

  10. Closure A summary by the students of what they learned today. It can be verbal or through a demonstration.

  11. Active Participation Various ways that I am having all students simultaneously participate at the same time. This may be in overt (written, oral, gestures) or covert ways.
