  1. DO NOW: The last thing I voted for was: The Results: I would/would not vote the same way again

  2. The U.S. population =people. 311,591,917 So we have a REPRESENTATIVE DEOMCRACY: we choose people to represent our views in government.

  3. TO VOTE: • 18 years or older (26th amendment) • Must be a U.S. citizen • Must be a resident in the U.S. • Should be registered to vote…. • Cannot be in jail

  4. Do you have to be registered? “Motor-Voter” Bill No registration, no problem. Register the day of an election.

  5. Those who want to be President have restrictions too….. • 35 years or older • Must be a native born, U.S. citizen • Born abroad, but both parents U.S. citizens • Have lived in the U.S. for 14 years before running.

  6. And the candidate is….. VS. Clooney Bieber

  7. VS. Freeman Schwarzenegger

  8. So you fit the requirements, but how are you chosen? -Well known in the party -Well known to the public

  9. The “Spongebob” Party

  10. Let the games begin.

  11. March 6th

  12. The elections to choose the candidates for general election… *States decide and regulate which form to take.

  13. Who are you really voting for? But you REALLY voted to increase Spongebob’s chances of winning the delegates from your state who have promised to vote for him at the National Convention. You voted for Spongebob, from the Spongebob Party, during the primaries.

  14. You must win the MAJORITY to get the delegates.

  15. The next step…

  16. What do you think? -Are conventions a waste of time? -How can they help a political party? (hint: they are televised) -Can these harm a political party?

  17. Let the games begin…again.

  18. DEBATES Town Hall debates -The voters way of getting information about a candidate -The candidates way of getting their views out to the public (if they answer the question), and hopefully getting viewers to vote for them in the general election.

  19. ELECTION DAY!

  20. Remember who you are voting for… The delegates who will vote for your candidate in the electoral college. VOTE

  21. Why not let Congress just decide? • President who is elected will be in debt to Congress for his job=POWER Why not let the people decide with the popular vote? • Voters may not be well uneducated (about candidate and/or the issues) • A president chosen from the masses may be too powerful (Avoid another king at all costs!)

  22. A compromise… • Between citizens direct voting and congressional elections. • No one has all the power • Electors vote along party lines instead of functioning as independent citizens. • They have “pledged” their vote to their party’s candidate.

  23. Do YOU see anything wrong with the Electoral College? • Does it accurately reflect the choice of the people? • If you have the majority of the electoral votes, you win. (does not always match the popular vote) • Smaller states can be overlooked during campaigning. (not worth as many electoral votes)

  24. 200 But, it has been in around for years.

  25. The SpongebobSquarepants Party Symbol: We stand for: -Time off work for jelly-fishing - Frequent bubble blowing parties -more production of square pants -pay raise at the KrustyKrab *Characteristics of our candidate: -Charismatic -Very energetic -Relates well to youth of Crestwood “I’m Ready.”

  26. You are a political party for a candidate who is running for Crestwood Middle School Principal: • Party Name • Symbol • Party Platform (Issues that you plan on addressing. What your party stands for). • 10 characteristics your pretend nominee will have • Ex: Female, passionate about students, has experience in other school districts….
