OBJECTIVES: • Provision and upgrading of training for existing human resources in waste management (to be in tune with the changes and advancement in technology) • Effective management of solid waste • Provision of incentives to motivate personnel involve in waste management
Options to address the issue • Develop HR development plan for waste mgmt • National inventory of current skilled people involved in waste mgmt • Organise National, regional & international waste mgmt seminars + study tours + conferences. • Net working of all those involved in waste mgmt • Incorporate waste management training in curriculum with existing training institution e.g. SICHE • Clearly identified different roles of all different stakeholders

Proposed activities and timeline • Human Resource Development Plan- 3 months • Incorporate waste management in curriculum at training institution e.g.SICHE/SIMTRI/RTC-starting in 2009 • Networking –2009 • Study tour for group 2– Starting June 2008-2009 • Short training attachment at relevant regional institutional e.g. SPREP-Palau, Samoa, Kiribati, Tonga and Fukoaka City-2008-2009 • Involve waste management personnel in research-on going
Budget • Human Resource Development plan- $50,000-00 • Study tours/seminar/workshop- SPREP, JICA or other donors • Training -$500,000-00/year • Networking-refer to technical capacity building • Research -$250,000-00
