Advent • Description: The main part of Advent is preparing for Christmas and the birth of Jesus. • What we do as a family: We prepare for Christmas by decorating and buying gifts for friends and family. We go to Christmas fundraisers and we also use an Advent calendar. We also celebrate St. Nicholas Day.
Christmas • Description: During Christmas we celebrate Jesus being born. • What we do as a family: We go to the Christmas Mass. We also get together as a family and exchange gifts. Also we eat a lot of food.
Lent • Description: This season begins on Ash Wednesday. During Lent you have time to grow closer to Jesus. • What we do as a family: As a family we try to give things up as a sacrifice. Also we get ashes on Ash Wednesday.
Triduum • Description: Some people consider this season the most important season of all. Triduum means 3 days and the 3 days are the days where we remember Jesus’ death. • What we do as a family: During the Triduum we go to the Saturday night Easter vigil.
Easter • Description: This season celebrates the resurrection of Jesus. It begins Easter night and goes until Pentacost Sunday. • What we do as a family: During Easter we get the whole family together and we have an Easter egg hunt. Also we have a big meal and we always pray before we eat.
Ordinary Time • Description: This season is celebrated in two parts. One is between Christmas and Lent and the other is between Easter and Advent. • What we do as a family: During Ordinary Time we go to church to learn about Jesus and God. Also we donate to charities.
General Info There are 6 seasons in the liturgical year and each one has a color. The Liturgical year begins with Advent but in the calendar year it is November.
