Munster: key players • Melchior Hoffman: Inspiration for Mattys; preached Christ’s imminent return, elimination of the ungodly • Bernard Rothman: priest who became a radical, influenced by Hoffman • Jan Mathijs: Dutch Anabaptist, believed the ungodly must be destroyed; killed in battle. • Jan of Leiden: Successor to Mathijs, instituted polygamy, declared king. Executed at the fall of the regime. • Bernhard Knipperdollingand Bernard Krechting: executed with Jan of Leiden
