Who are we? • The Fundación de Familias Monoparentales “Isadora Duncan”is the heiress of the Asociación de Madres Solteras “Isadora Duncan”. • Since the foundation of the Association in the year 1984 we have been accomplishing social, legal, psychological and work demands, among others of the collective of single mothers, one-parent families and women, taking an active part in the creation of services for women in general and especially for one-parent families, becoming a worldwide reference for the associationmovement of single mothers. The Fundación de Familias Monoparentales “Isadora Duncan” is the most veteran entity of this collective in Spain and one of the pioneer ones in the association movement of One-Parent Families.
I The women founders of the association were encouraged by the aim of demanding and enforcing the rights which they, as women and as families, are granted by Spanish laws, facing up to social and financial discrimination, which was then more noticeable but which is now more hidden and less obvious, since they often bear a double discrimination. • Defense of dignity, social and legal equality and educational promotion and incorporation into labour market have constituted and constitute the main core issues of its activity. • Because of the specific problems of one-parent families in Spain, Europe and Latin America, and very especially poverty.
