  1. Comprehensive Computer Security Software An advanced computer security software usually have one or more of the following utilities to safeguard your computer against security threats: • Anti-virus and site advisor • Anti-spyware • Anti-spam • Firewall

  2. Anti-virus Anti-virus, as the name suggests, enables you to safeguard your system against viruses. Almost all anti-virus software come with a free plug-in of a site advisor. The site advisor helps us identify a secure site- which is free from viruses, spyware and spams. It does not protect the system from a security threat, such as a virus, or spam mails, but act as an advisor for safe browsing over the Internet.

  3. Anti-spam Spamming is a mechanism where an attacker can send e-mails. The flooding of e-mail accounts with junk mails choke the network. A spam filter enables you to filter such emails that may harm your system and cause network to become slow.

  4. Anti-spyware Anti-spyware scans your system for any spyware that is installed on your system. It also terminates the activity of the spyware that may be intruding your system resources. Most spyware come packed with anti-virus protection as well to protect and safeguard your system resources for any malicious activity.

  5. Firewall Firewall is a protection mechanism that acts as a gateway to protect the resources of a private network or a system from public networks. It prevents unauthorized inward network access, and screens every request from outside network to ensure that they come from secure domain names and IP addresses.

  6. Site Advisor • Using site advisor is a proactive rather than a reactive measure to safeguard against a security threat. This means that unlike anti-virus software, which enables you to clean your system from malicious software, a site advisor warns you against the use of Internet resources that may harm your computer and network. • A site advisor does this through security marks, which represent the security levels of a website.
