Analyst Clean Techniques • 1. Pre-rinsing of sample tubes: I rinse all of my “Falcon” tubes with 1.5-2.5ml of Trace metal grade nitric acid. Then rinse 3-4 times with DI water. • 2. Digestion Vessels: rinse 2-3 times with an aliquot of acid preserved sample. • 3. Double Pipetting: The first draw of acid should be sent to a waste bottle. • 4. Blank prepared first: When dispensing the acid place in the blank first. That way if there is any contamination on the pipet tip it will show up in the blank. • 5. Sample Analysis: Only uncap what the instrument can do in a 30-40 minute period. This reduces the chance of possible air borne contamination.
