Course Information(press enter to continue) • 1.0 unit of credit (if you already know how to type 30wpm, please see an instructor before continuing with the orientation) • 5-week course and 5 hours per week required in lab • TBA means you can attend class during the days and times that are convenient for you within the scheduled lab hours (posted in lab and shows days and times that the lab is open.) • You are welcome to attend anytime the lab is open. • Be sure to schedule most of your time when instructor is on duty to check lessons, review tests, and answer questions. • Must meet weekly progress goals

  3. The Progress Folder • The progress folder is your roadmap through the course • ALWAYS remains in the lab file cabinet (please do not take folder home) • Highlights all course information • Lesson procedures • Testing • The course contract

  4. Attendance Requirements • Attendance is taken on the computer as you enter the lab. • Login and logout every time you attend class using your student ID number. • 30-minute minimum each session for system to track your time in the lab. • If you are taking more than one lab class, you need to sign in and out of the computer for each separate class!

  5. Progress Requirements • Weekly completion dates will be given to you at the end of this orientation based on today’s date. • If you need to put off starting your keyboarding class for any reason, let the teacher aide know. Otherwise you will be dropped for unsatisfactory progress. • Ahead of schedule is very GOOD! • Behind schedule is not good!

  6. What If I’m Absent??? • If you are out for more than one week, you need to contact us so we can make a notation in our files and adjust progress dates if needed. 395-4661. • If you are absent and don’t let us know, you may be dropped or receive an “F” grade. • It is very important that you maintain good attendance and progress!

  7. Login Instructions • Double click the Keyboarding Pro DELUXE Icon. • The first time you enter you will click on NEW STUDENT and fill out the registration portion (example on next screen). • Ask an instructor to help you when you start your lessons if you need.

  8. Log in for the First Time • To create your student record, click the from the Log in dialog box. • Key information in each required field. • Username: just your first name. • Class: left as No Class Assigned. • Use the pull-down menu to select a security question. • Key in your answer that will help you remember your password. • Email: Key your BC assigned email. • Click OK to save your data.

  9. Lesson Procedure • Double click the Einstein icon to log into the program. • Follow screen directions, the program will prompt you when you need to go to the book. • Read the chapter! This can be done outside of class to speed things along while you are in the lab. • Have an instructor sign off the completed lesson. (yellow flag) • The lessons are automatically saved. PLEASE DO NOT PRINT ANY EXERCISES!

Testing & Grading • When the last lesson (25) is completed satisfactorily, ask for the PRACTICE TEST. • Complete the practice test and get an instructor to check your answers; this is now your study guide. • The grading scale for course is printed on the inside of your progress folder. • 50% of your grade is speed; and 50% of your grade is general information. • You should take both parts of your final within 3 school days of completing the practice test.

  11. Read the course contract on your progress folder carefully and then sign it and write your phone number. As stated, you may be automatically dropped or receive an “F” grade if you are not maintaining satisfactory attendance and/or progress. It is YOUR responsibility to keep current in the class. THE COURSE CONTRACT I understand that I must attend class a minimum of five hours per week and complete the weekly course assignments and tests as stated on the progress record. If I fall five hours behind or do not make satisfactory progress, I may be dropped from the course without notice or may receive an “F” grade.   12. Completion Dates • Print your name on the progress folder label (last name first, please) • Sign the course contract information and give your phone number • Give progress folder to teacher aide for your weekly completion dates • Do NOT take your folder out of the lab!

  13. End of Orientation • Again we welcome you to the Office Technology lab and the keyboarding class. We want you to be successful and we’re here to help…. • Students with disabilities who believe they may need accommodations in this class are encouraged to contact Disabled Student Programs & Services located at Student Services Building, 1st Floor, Counseling Center (661-395-4334), as soon as possible to better ensure such accommodations are implemented in a timely fashion. • Good luck in keyboarding!
