July 25, 2012 Implementing ArcGIS for Facilities Pat Wallis, Craig Cleveland, Craig McCabe
Agenda • Overview (Problem Statement, ArcGIS for Facilities Solution) • Content Creation Tools • Campus Editing Template • Interior & Exterior Editing, Attribute Asst., LIDAR tools • Campus Basemap Template • Basis, Data Model, Community Maps 2.0, New Domains, Creating Services • Web Applications • Campus Place Finder • Demo, publishing services, configuring the .config file • Android Space Management App • CityEngine 3D Campus Preview • Exterior landscape & facade, interior floorplan rules • CityEngineArcGIS export • WebGL support in CE 2012 Implementing ArcGIS for Facilities
Problem Statement Pat Wallis
A World Without Context Can’t see the city for the buildings…
A World Without Context • The facilities industry enormous, but it is fragmented: • Many phases (time ) & scales (space) • Many stakeholders • Many unstructured data sources (paper driven paradigm) • Its unstructured & fragmented nature defies context • Difficult to assemble and provide coordinated awareness • Difficult to discern patterns for use in optimizing performance The unintended consequences of a building by building worldview
From Babylon to Bilbao & Hong Kong 360 AD 2012 AD 2000 BC \ 1851 AD 438 BC 2000 AD A long heritage with global reach and impact
An Urban World The US and world are 81% and 50% urbanized
Many Stakeholders, Many Phases Concept Design & Procure Execution Commission Utilize Renewal The industry’s unstructured & fragmented nature defies context...
Many Scales WORLD NATION CITY BUILDING FLOOR SECTION SPACE The industry’s unstructured & fragmented nature defies context...
Many Data Sources The industry’s unstructured & fragmented nature defies context...
A World Without Context • The cumulative impact of these inefficiencies makes it difficult to optimize & manage the built environment: • Interoperability costs nearly $19 Billion annually (as of 2004) • $2-$4 Trillion in unnecessary residential costs (’1980-’2010) • $1 Trillion in wasted energy from de-densification • A loss of 21K SQMI to central cities (1950-2010) • 676K SQMI of new suburbs (1950-2010) These are the unintended consequences of a building by building worldview
De-densification, from 1980-2010 , led to 101 Quadrillion wasted BTUs (~$910 Billion ) This is the energy equivalent of 18 Billion oil barrels… enough to create a 10 million mile high stack
Why ArcGIS for Facilities Matters • Esri Facilities Solutions help you help your customers • As a result, FM and GIS pros are teaming up to reverse these trends by: • Re-structuring building data to provide the geospatial context needed to connect: • Stakeholders through the FM lifecycle and across scales (roomglobe) • Key systems for managing facilities and sustaining the built environment Powerful tools for providing context & connecting the dots
ArcGIS System Apps Online Functionality Geospatial Information Model CONTEXT Server Desktop -Decision Support -Problem Solving Content Solution Framework
Content • Providing insight to owners and regulators • Forecast short- and long-term impacts • Enabling better decision making • By using a logical hierarchy with this inherent spatial structure, you can find the data you want when you want it • This is key to finding patterns and trends XYZ Inherent Spatial Structure
Content At large scales, ArcGIS for Facilities provides tools for creating content from standardized CAD / BIM source data CAD BIM Desktop CityEngine CM 2.0 Online Server At small scales it provides procedural tools for content creation, as well as online resources such as basemaps, etc…
A Facilities Resource Center • Find the resources you need to manage your facilities and portfolio
ArcGIS for Facilities Resources Templates Maps, apps, schemas, models and workflows to help you implement ArcGIS for Facilities. • Data creation & management tools • Visualization and analysis tools • Data discovery and sharing tools Supports general and domain specific needs
ArcGIS for Facilities Templates Intelligent mapping resources organized around the work you do … Planning Portfolio Management Site Selection ArcGIS System Environmental Compliance Space & Move Management Safety & Security Work Order Management Operations & Maintenance Emergency Management Energy & Sustainability … A framework for solving problems and providing decision support
Intelligent Maps and Applications • Find what you want when you want it -- across the entire portfolio Replace Image
Framework for an Informed Infrastructure AWARENESS PERFORMANCE Providing context …making geography part of the drilldown
