  6. About the Briefing • It’s customized. • You include what you feel is important. • Therefore, YOU become the expert. • And if your wrong, your troops may suffer.

  7. Your Next Assignment

  8. Your Job • Define the medical risks (The ones that count). • Find countermeasures (To minimize or eliminate). • Get support from the people who matter. (Who are they?)

  9. Steps • Identify Threats • Determine Preventative Countermeasures • Determine Options When Prevention Fails • Try to have a backup plan • Make Recommendations • Insure Commander Buy-In & Support • Constant Surveillance to Monitor Status

  10. Risk Assessments • Probability that individuals will be “disabled”. • Period of time. • Which population. • Under what circumstances. • Specific hazards. • Estimated level of impact. (IN ABSENCE OF COUNTERMEASURES)

  11. Addressing Force Health Risks • List of diseases endemic to the region-Limited benefit to troops. • What percentage of forces are likely to be affected by the diseases present. • How many days will be lost. • Operational impact.
