The current version has been used since 1801, when Ireland became a part of the U.K. England, Wales and Scotland are all represented on the flag but Wales isn't because it is an English principality (knížectví).

  10. The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Queen Elisabeth II. is the current British monarch. She was born in 1926 and became Queen after her father's birth in 1952. In 1947 she married Prince Phillip of Greece. They have four children. Quen Elisabeth II. is a highly respected and much loved monarch with a great interest in the Commonwealth. But she does not have a lot of power (the Parliament does), her main role is to represent Britain and British people.

  13. The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Prince Charles is the oldest son of Queen Elisabeth II. and is expected to become the next British king. He was born in 1948. He married Lady Diana Spencer in 1981 and they had two children, but the marriage was divorced in 1996. Charles's hobbies include painting, architecture and care for the environment. He isn't as popular as his mother, though. Some people even think he shouldn't become the next king.

  16. The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Lady Diana was the former wife of Prince Charles and the mother of Prince William and Prince Henry (Harry). Soon after the wedding with Charles in St. Paul's Cathedral, she became the most popular member of the royal family. However, the marriage ended in 1996 and Diana spent much time working for charities. She died in a car crash in Paris in 1997 while she was trying to escape from photographers. Her funeral was watched by more than a billion people.

They also made several successful films, such as The Yellow Submarine. The group, which greatly influenced pop music, split in 1970.

Edinburgh, which has been a World Heritage Site since 1995, is the most important cultural centre in the whole Scotland.

  25. The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Oxford is a city in southern England, west of London. It is famous for its university, the oldest in Britain, established in the 12th century. Oxford is also quite an important tourist centre and an industrial city.

It is famous for its healthy mineral water and hot springs, its ancient Roman baths and beautiful houses from the 19th century. It is an important cultural centre. In 1987 Bath became a World Heritage Site.

  34. The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Stonehenge is Britain's most famous prehistoric monument. You would find it in Southern England. It was built between 3000-1500 BC. Nobody really knows why Stonehenge was built, but many people think it was to study stars and planets or to worship the sun. Stonehenge was made a World heritage Site in 1986.
