  1. God’s of Technology! By: Kendal, Laura, Soraya and Alex

  2. Task Overview • Our chosen task requires students to research either a pharaoh or slave from ancient Egyptian times. They will then present their information using forms of technology such as: PowerPoint, film or creating an online story book. Information can be presented as either a story or in the form of a report depending on their chosen form of technology. Once they have completed their research each group will present their findings to the class, and from here will discuss the differences between the daily lives between the two classes. They are then required to compare their lives to someone living at that time, and on the final lesson write a short paragraph about this, which will be assessed by the teacher.

  3. Deciding… • When we first started we decided to do Greek mythology. However this topic proved to be difficult as it was too broad and wasn’t relatable to real life situations making thinking of engaging tasks challenging. We decided to change to ancient Egyptian history as it was more realistic and allowed students to compare their lives to the lives of pharaoh’s and slaves. The task we decided to give students allowed them to use technologies to develop their researching skills and to decipher what information was relevant or not. After looking at the curriculum council website for W.A, we chose to aim our task at year 7 students. To give students and teachers an example of what was expected we decided to put together some examples of presentation through various technologies these included a power point, movie and online story book.

  4. Movie! • To make the movie on Tutankhamen Laura and I used the webcam on our computers to film the information we had found. Simply placed some images in front of the screen and then recorded the script we had prepared.

  5. Powerpoint! • To make the PowerPoint, I gathered information on Cleopatra through looking at various websites. I then presented this information in a way that I thought would be easy for students to reproduce. I included pictures and background colours to make it interesting and engaging for students.

  6. Online Storybook! • To make the story book, I researched the life of a slave focusing on important aspects to present in drawings. Once I have decided on a story and what I wanted in each image, I drew each scene using paint. I then scanned each image into the computer and used photo shop software to put them together.

  7. Wikispace • We then uploaded these onto our wiki page, along with links of information we found and thought we be useful for students and teachers to use. We also provided extension activities for student who had completed their work early, or wanted an extra task to complete. When thinking of a task to assign students, we had be sure that it covered all of the authentic learning elements. We went through all 9 elements and what they required and from there altered the task we had chosen to ensure it met each elements requirements. Once we were satisfied that we had an authentic learning activity, we finalised it and are presenting here to you all today. We hope you have enjoyed hearing about the topic we chose and the task we have made.
