  2. Appearance/ characteristics/ special habits • It is a creamy white to a yellow colour and has extremly curved gills. • It is 5 to 20 centimeters in diameters.

  3. Natural habitat/environment • This mushroom is found in the mountains of northern Sicily in Italy. • It grows on limestone soil in altitudes of 1200 m to 2000 m.

  4. Cause for near extinction • Their natural habitat in the wild is only an area of less than 100 square kilometres. • Collectors are now picking unripe mushrooms in the wild. • Less than 250 individuals reach maturity each year.

  5. Food People and animals eat this mushroom from the wild This mushroom is considered to be one of the most delicious in the world It is an expensive mushroom because it is hard to get

  6. Relationship with Humans/ Environment These fungi are in demand due to their rare nature and high value. Grows only in one Park in Sicily, Italy

  7. What we can do to help Scientists are trying to grow them in farms. • Locals are planning to make a protected area for this mushroom. • People may not be able to pick unripe specimens in the future.
