Preliminaries • Turn in Homework 2 • Place it on top of the folder • Use the stapler if needed • Make sure your name is on it • Pass back Homework 1
Homework 1 Overview • Class Average: 83% (60 students) • 3 zeros, Adjusted Average: 87.4% • Problem 58 was graded by Emmanuel • The rest of the problems were graded by Pascal • Two week period for grade corrections • Judgment calls are resolved with grading person • Adding score and clear mistakes can be brought to me • Homework problem questions can be brought to me • Grading Key [Open It] • http://www.cs.virginia.edu/~cmt5n/cs202/hw1/
Grading Key • I have given a solution to each of the even numbered problems. Also a solution is given for any odd numbered problems that were graded. • Grading values are given in red for each graded problem. This is the grading criteria. • The grading key only gives one (usually non-optimal) solution to each problem. • Compare your HW to the grading key before bringing it in for grade correction. • If you have late HW1 you must turn it in by the end of class today (for 25%)
Common Mistakes on HW1 • I looked through a sample of the graded HWs • Many people fell prey to the common mistake of getting off-track on a question • If you answered the wrong question, it was marked wrong • This goes back to being careful and double-checking • Finger anchored to the book while copying • Write the problem down • A number of people either omitted or didn’t complete certain questions that were graded
Late Homework Policy • Recall that we have a percentage scheme • On time (by the end of the class period) 100% • Up to 2 days late (usu. by next class) 75% • Up to 4 days late (usu. by 2 classes) 50% • Up to a full week late (usu. same day) 25% • More than a week late or after grading key has been posted, it will not be accepted for grading • In cases of documented absence (sports related, illness related, death related, etc.), non-penalized extensions can be agreed on.
Exam Dates • As stated in the syllabus, exam dates are TBA • I will give over a week’s notice • If you can not make an exam, you need to notify me ASAP and we’ll arrange for it to be taken in advance • We still have to finish Ch 1 so the first exam is still two weeks away at the least (i.e. it won’t be before Feb. 17)
New Office Location • I have moved from Olsson 238B to 228D • How to find me [map] • My office hours • Monday: 3:30-5:00pm • Tuesday: 3:30-5:00pm • Wednesday: 3:30-4:30pm • Pascal’s office hours • Thursday: 9:30-11:00am • In Olsson 113 Conference room • Except for February 13, in Olsson 228E conference • pv9f@cs.virginia.edu • Emmanuel, ejs2e@virginia.edu • Update on hours in next class
HW3 will be assigned on Monday • However, you should make sure that you get the problems from section 1.4 done before Monday • These problems require a good deal of care • Section 1.5 builds on the material from 1.4 • Reinforce what we’ve covered before you forget • Reminder, Problems from Section 1.4: • 1.4: 3, 8, 10, 15, 19, 26, 32, 37
