1. Newark Celebration 350 – Newark Celebrates 350th Anniversary In 2016, Newark will throw a year-long celebration, marking its 350thanniversary. Founded in 1666 by a colony of Puritans, New Jersey’s largest city has experienced a transformative history having been an industrial center, bustling port and a mecca for insurance companies – an industry which continues to flourish. Today, the bustling city is a thriving mecca for arts, culture and industry. To celebrate its birth and rebirth over the years, the Newark Celebration 350 Committee, or NC350, and the Military Park Partnership have planned events across the city and throughout the year. Events will showcase the rich history of Newark as a way to engage people of all ages who live, work and play in the city. A “Family Fun Fair” kicked off the celebration in October in Military Park.
