  1. Long Term Care Facilities LTCF Mainly provide care for the geriatric population.

  3. 3 types of Long Term Care Facilities • Assisted Living • Nursing Homes • Extended Care Facilities • Which one provides the greatest level of care?

  4. Assisted Living Facilities • Residents can take care of their self. • They only need a little help - housekeeping, taking meds. and cooking.

  5. Nursing Homes • Provide care for residents who can’t take care of their self anymore. • Help with ADL’s • provide a safe environment

  6. Extended Care Facilities • Acts as a bridge between hospital and home. • provides temporary nursing/rehab care

  7. MEDICAL OFFICES Just like hospitals, some are general and some specialize. Can you think of a doctors office that specializes in something?

  9. TREATMENT EXAMINATION DIAGNOSIS Remember TED

  10. CLINICS Clinics are composed of groups of doctors who share the same facility . Think Boice Willis Clinic

  11. Surgi-centers Perform minor procedures and send their patients home the same day = “outpatient” Health Department. The “clinic” may offer tx for kids, STD’s or immunization EXAMPLE OF CLINICS

  12. Optical Centers • Can be owned by one doctor or by a large chain. • Examples: Dr. Susan Watson Eye Care Center At Wal-Mart

  13. EMERGENCY CARE SERVICES Provide emergency care for victims of sudden illness or accidents.

  14. Emergency? Emergency care can be given almost anywhere it’s needed.

  15. LABORATORIES Labs are often found inside hospitals but can operate in a separate place.

  18. HOME HEALTH CARE • Provides health care in the pts. home. • Mostly elderly or disabled pts. • Operated by: health departments, private companies or volunteer groups

  19. Home Health care can include: • Nursing care • Personal care • Therapy; speech physical, respiratory or occupational. • Homemaking task

  20. HOSPICE • The pts. are terminally ill with less than 6 months to live. • Most have cancer. • Take care of pts. In their home • “Death with dignity”

  22. REHAB FACILITIES • They provide care to help patients with disabilities regain their maximum function. Remember the definition of wellness? What kinds of disability do they have?

  23. Health Maintenance Organizations • Focus onPREVENTION… It is cheaper to keep you healthy than to treat you when you become sick!!!!

  24. Industrial Health Care Centers • Found inside large companies like Firestone or CDC • Provide emergency care, basic exams and safety education for their employees.

  25. SCHOOL HEALTH SERVICES • Emergency care • Vision screening • Hearing screens • Health education • Safe school environment • counseling
