  3. Description • The park has four basic regions: the Pacific coastline, alpine areas, the west side temperate rainforest and the forests of the drier east side.

  4. Recreational Activities/Facilities • The park has camping, walking trails, swimming, and in the winter skiing. • The trails in the park only go so far it would be hard to reach the interior of the park • Restrooms, snack bars, info. Desk, etc. are all included in this park • Fishing (catch and release) • Climbing • Biking • Lodging

  5. Wildlife • Deer, Elk, Mountain Goat • Black Bear • Banana Slug is common in lowland forest • Many rodents some that live in specific trees that grow there like the Douglas Squirrel • Cougar • Many types of birds and a few species of owls. • Also hawks and eagles are common in these areas

  6. Habitat • Habitat in the Olympic forest ranges from lowland damp forest to high country. • The trees that grow here depend on the location. There are four kinds of forest that grow here: temperate rain forest, lowland, montane, and subalpine. • Douglas Fir, Grand Fir, Sitka Spruce, Subalpine Fir, Western Hemlock (co-champion), Western Redcedar

  7. Climate • At any time of year, visitors should come prepared for a variety of conditions. Rain gear and layered clothing are a must. • The climate is predominantly a marine type with cool summers, mild but rather cloudy winters, moist air, and a small daily range in temperatures. • Snow in the lower parts of the mountains doesn’t stick around for long as for the higher altitudes it doesn’t go away.

  8. Cost and Fees • Entrance Fees -- Single visit (good for up to seven consecutive days at any Olympic National Park entrance.) • Vehicle: $15 • Individual: (on foot, bicycle, motorcycle) $5. Children 15 years old and younger are admitted free of charge.
