  2. Unintentional injury is the number one killer of America’s children; taking more lives than disease, violence and suicide. • Prevention is the cure. It is estimated that by taking these and other simple precautions, almost all (90%) of these unintentional injuries can be avoided.

  4. Babies: Why Are They Especially At Risk?? • Babies are totally dependent on adult caregiver. • Babies face a list of potential dangers; choking, drowning, falls, poisons, burns. • Each of these risks can be reduced or eliminated

  5. Toddlers: Why are they at high risk?? They become mobile!! Crawling, Walking, Running! Children age 1-4 can reach and do many things, yet they do not have the judgment or skills to handle things safely.

  13. Key Facts – Home Injury • Fires, suffocation and drowning are the leading causes of unintentional home injury death among children in this age group.

  14. Key Facts – Car Seat Safety • Child safety seats and safety belts, when installed and used properly, can prevent injuries and save lives. • Young children restrained in child safety seats have an 80% lower risk of fatal injury than those who are unrestrained.

Key Facts – Toy Related • Each year, approximately 217,000 toy-related injuries are treated in hospital emergency rooms. • Small play balls and balloons account for many choking deaths. • Riding toys including un-powered scooters and tricycles are associated with more injuries than any other toy group.
