THREE FACTS OF SIN “Who pardons all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases; Who redeems your life from the pit, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and compassion?” (Psa. 103:3-4).
Sin: What “WE” Did Wrong • Transgress – lawlessness – I John 3:4 • Crossing God’s boundaries – 2 John 9ff • The strait and narrow way vs. a zigzag course • Missing the mark
1. The Power Of Sin • It Allures – To charm, to fascinate • Romans 7:21-24; James 4:7-8 • It deceives – “It’s not that bad.” Shows us all the pleasure while concealing the pain. • Heb. 3:12-13; I Tim. 2:13-14 • It enslaves – stifles noble impulses. Greed stifles charity. • Gal. 4:3; Rom. 6:16 • It paralyzes the will, corrupts the affections, blinds the intellect.
The Stain Of Sin • Wounds leave scars. Sin doesn’t leave us the same as it finds us. • On the Reputation – Prov. 22:1; Eccl. 7:1 • On the body – Ex. 20:5 (STD’s, alcohol, etc.) • On the soul – I Tim. 4:2
The Guilt Of Sin • We may repair reputation. We may recover health. We can’t deal with guilt alone. • Guilt is our ledger page in heaven. Only God keeps this account. • Romans 3:23; I John 1:10 • Our loneliness – separated from God; Isaiah 59:1ff • I Cor. 15:3 – W/O Jesus, we’re doomed.
God’s Remedy • From power of sin to the power of love. • From the stain – “Outstained” by blood of Jesus • From guilt to forgiveness, redemption. • Romans 6:17-18; I Cor. 6:9-11
