2. 2007 - 2008 CMC Activities Overview • Monthly Telecom CMC Board of Directors Meetings, minutes recorded by Dr. David Evans, Secretary/ Treasurer • Focus on increasing CMC membership has had a huge impact! • Leadership Symposia w/Chairs of Special Interest Groups (SIG’s) Reporting on Commitments to 2008 • CMC Ex-Officio Director (Joe O’Brien) Serves as VP Finance to ASEE Board • Continued Emphasis to the Institutional Councils and ASEE Board of Directors for I. Davis Collaboration Award – still in progress • SIG for K-12 Educational Pipeline and Future Workforce continued work on guidelines for National Publication

3. 2007 - 2008 CMC - ASEE Activities • SIG for Diversity Issues in Engineering Education Focused on Increasing Society Membership to ASEE and special sessions at national conference • SIG on Industry/University Collaboration for Engr. Research & Intellectual Property Working w/EDC • SIG for the National Collaborative Task Force to Support the Establishment of Reform for Graduate Engineering Education Continues Effort w/Universities • Supported the CIP Division Activities at the 2008 CIEC Conference in New Orleans, LA • Supported the CIP Division Activities at the 2007 ASEE Annual Conference in Honolulu, HI • Presented the CMC “Excellence in Engineering Education Collaboration Award” at 2008 CIEC

4. 2007 - 2008 CMC - ASEE Activities • CMC Members and its Partners submitted Abstracts for 2008 ASEE Annual Conference • CMC BoD Companies were Major Financial Sponsors of 2007 CIEC Conference, New Orleans, LA • CMC BoD Companies were major sponsors and participants in the 2008 EDI in La Jolla, CA • PIC V Chair is Ex-Officio CMC Director (Dr. David Quick), and actively engaged in promoting collaboration between CMC and CIP, CPD • CPD Chair (Lynette Krenelka, Julayne Moser) actively participants in monthly CMC agenda • Joe Tidwell, as CIP Chair and Ex-Officio CMC Director, instrumental in keeping CMC connected to CIEC, CIP activities

5. 2007 - 2008 CMC - SIG Activities • SIG for the National Collaborative Task Force program (Dr. Don Keating) • Received endorsement of AIA • Attended the US Dept of Labor symposium on workforce issues • Presented to US Dept of Commerce and NSF • Task force meetings held in Wilmington, DE and NOLA • Active presenters at 2007 and 2008 ASEE annual conferences • University of New Haven (Conn) has joined the alliance • SIG for Engineering, Technology & Society Liaison (Prof. Pat Fox) • Served as liaison between EDC, ETC and Professional Societies for CMC, working to increase mutual partnerships, programs and activities • Engaged with EDC Chair Dean Don Giddens and EDC Diversity Committee Chair Dean Lee Burge to promote support for the joint Council national collaboration award

6. 2007 - 2008 CMC – SIG Activities • SIG for Diversity Issues in Engineering Education (Dr. Ray Haynes) • The 2007 EDI meeting was focused on diversity and featured speakers from many engineering diversity organizations. • A diversity workshop was held at University of HA following the 2007 ASEE National meeting, supported by both industry, academia and diversity organizations. • Various 1x1 meetings were held with many of the diversity organizations to pitch the collaborative concept and have them consider joining ASEE. Led by WEPAN in 2007, the initial 2008 joiners will be AISES, HENAAC and NAMEPA to ascertain the value of such membership to non-profit groups. • Initial discussions have begun with Dean Sarah Rajala, incoming ASEE President, to develop strategy for 2008 diversity initiatives.

7. 2007 - 2008 CMC – SIG Activities • SIG for Diversity Issues in Engineering Education (Dr. Ray Haynes) – cont’d • A new organization, Ncourages, emerged as the provider of the collaborative workspace including scheduling of local, regional and national conferences where industry provides significant resources. So, under the leadership of Michele Lezama at GEM, a site was created to be the point of engagement and now lists 10 diversity organizations. (www.ncourages.org) • SIG on Industry/University Collaboration for Engineering Research & Intellectual Property (Lou Witkin) • Participated in the 2007 CMC Leadership Symposium • Re-engergizing membership on SIG by actively soliciting additional corporate membership

8. 2007 - 2008 CMC – SIG Activities • SIG for K-12 Educational Pipeline & Future Workforce (Richard Blais) • Conducted a conference on establishing guidelines for K-12 education to support the STEM effort in the US • Compiled a rationale and set of guidelines for K-12 STEM education entitled “Engineering Activities are for All Americans”, which are focused on: • Engineering Design • Connecting engineering to Science, Technology and Mathematics • Nature of Engineering • Communication and Teamwork • Engineering and Society • The rationale and guidelines will be published by the National Careers Clusters Project of the US Dept of Education • Accepted direction from the CMC Leadership Symposium to solicit the NSF for a planning grant to assess how it could get involved over the next three years to improve the K-12 programs (proposal submitted)

9. 2007 - 2008 CMC – Committee Activities • Awards Committee (Pete Janzow) • We set a record for the number of nominations received for the 2008 Excellence in Engineering Education Collaboration awards! Five winners were selected and awards presented at the 2008 CIEC in NOLA to: • FIRST Program Collaboration Autodesk, Inc • A World in Motion International SAE • SAE Collegiate Design Series International SAE • Worcester Polytechnic Institute Collaboration SolidWorks • Rolls-Royce/ Purdue MS of Tech Degree Program Rolls-Royce • Membership Committee • Recruit, retain and diversify CMC membership • CMC membership has increased a record 25% over the past two years!!

10. 2007 - 2008 CMC – Committee Activities • Nominations Committee (Dr. Ray Morrison) • Record number of nominations for new Directors collected and to be forwarded to members • Results of vote to be reported at ASEE Annual Conference • CMC Archives & Web Site (Mark Stratton) • Collecting and publishing CMC history • Updating Handbook with Revisions • Program Committee (Diane Matt) • Continuing the inclusive approach for 2008 CMC /EDC Dinner at the Annual Conference to include Deans of Engineering Technology on the invitee list

11. 2007 - 2008 CMC – Committee Activities • Program Committee (Diane Matt) – cont’d Industry Day Sessions on Tuesday, June 24, 2008, focus on current challenges in engineering education. Organized under the overarching theme of “Collaboration between Industry and Higher Education”, topics for four sessions were drawn from suggestions by the CMC Board and others. Emphasizing perspectives from industry and higher education, each session is structured to generate next steps for future action: • 2107: Collaborations to Meet the Global Future in Engineering • 2207: A Dialogue on Key Components of K-12 Formal and Informal Engineering Experiences • 2507: Another Grand Challenge--A Systems Approach to Engineering Diversity • 2607: Hearing Student Voices--Understanding student experiences and improving climate, instruction and community.
