Aligning Parts in an Assembly • Assembly drawings show how the components of a design fit together dimensions and other details • Several assembly drawings’ styles are used • Exploded view • Sectioned assembly • Cut-away view (a drawing that shows the construction and internal detail of an object by showing the outer parts) • Numbers or letters are assigned to individual parts of the assembly and are related to a parts list which can be called Bill of Material
ASSEMBLY - Bill of Materials (Part List) • It includes; • The part names, • Identification number, • Material, • Number used in the assembly, • Other information like catalog number for standard parts
ASSEMBLY - In an Assembly Drawing • You can see all of the components of a design either assembled or in an exploded view • Most dimensions are omitted • Individual parts are not dimensioned • Hidden lines are rarely shown in assembly drawings (they can be used if they are really necessary) • Leader lines attached to a ballooned letter or detail number which refers to the parts of the assembly • These leader liner cannot cross and should be almost parallel. • Parts list can be on the assembly drawing or on a separate sheet • It should also contain machining and assembly information
ASSEMBLY - If Assembly Drawings Include Assembly Sections • Views of parts may be orthographic or pictorial section views • Adjacent parts in the drawings are cross-hatched at different angles to make each part clear • Detailed view can be used to show the interior structure or how the parts assembled • Fasteners, washers, springs, bearings, and gears are not cross-hatched
ASSEMBLY DRAWING • When something is designed, an assembly drawing is prepared to show the general arrangement • All parts are shown assembled in their operating positions • A part list is shown
EXPLODED ASSEMBLIES • Components are placed in their functional orientation and location in an assembly • Assembly drawing is used to display the location of assembled components • The assembly can be exploded to separate components to make it more understandable
BILL OF MATERIALS (PART LIST) • Each single part in the drawing is usually labeled by a reference number • Balloons contain relevant reference number • These numbers are listed in a part list on the drawing or on a separate sheet • The part number • The name and description of the part • The material from which the part is to be made • The quantity required
