Alonzo Mourning NBA Sparks By: Lexie
Hi, my name is Alonzo Mourning! I was born on February 8th live in Deep Creek,Virginia. My parents are named Alonzo, Sir., and his wife Julia. I also have a sister named Tamara. My parents got divorced in 1982, when I was only 10 years old. I was taken into a foster home by Fannie Threet. She was my substitute teacher. Down the block from the foster home, there was a homemade basketball hoop hanging on a tree for me to practice on. We also had a rough basketball court to practice on, too. When I got older, I got a job at the shipyards.
When I started in the NBA, I lead a bunch of the teams I played on to the championships! Before I played on Miami Heat, I played on the Boston Celtics. In 1993, I blocked 188 shots during my rookie year! In 1996, I lead the Heat into the playoffs averaging 23.2 points a game!
I think im a hardworking, fast, active, helpful, competitive, but nice basketball player. I think im very tall, too, I a wore size 12 shoes when I was 6 foot tall!
I had a 15 year career. Then I retierd on January 22, 2009. I have also played for college teams like the AAU ( Amater Athletic Union, or the Indian River High in 1987. I was the MVP at Virginia High School. I impressed a bunch of people by blocking an AMAZING 11 shots.
One of my goals is trying to make the basketball teams I tried out for. I tried out for many of them. Another one is to be in the NBA, I accomplished both of them!
I suffered a partial tear off of my left foot during a game against Phoenix. It was hard to switch teams, too, sometimes, I had to play against my best friends.
I was named First Team All American by the Associated Press! I blocked 271 shots close to the end of my Rookie year. I was taller than a lot of the NBA players.
I also loved to help out Athletes for Hope. So I did and got the award for athletes for hope! Plus, I started my own charities! The Alonzo Mourning Charitable inc. and Zoes Fund For Life!
