Film Focus: • Before viewing: what do you typically do when you get home from school, right when you walk in the door? Do you have any sort of routine? Explain. • Before viewing: Have you ever heard “don’t step on the cracks” in reference to the sidewalk? Do you avoid the cracks? Why/why not? • Describe the routine this character goes through when he arrives home at his apartment and as he walks around the city. How might this be impacting his life?
Film focus • Before viewing: you just got in a car accident. You’re being rushed to the hospital. What are your thoughts? What are your actions? • What has happened to the patient that just came into the hospital on the ambulance? • What things does he keep counting? • What are his concerns as he is getting treatment? How might this impact the doctors’ ability to help him? • “You’ve managed to turn your compulsions into something productive.” Do you think this is possible for most people with OCD? Explain.

How does it work? What tools does the treatment use? • How effective has this treatment been?
Assessment: Life with OCD… • Create a comic strip OR write a short story about someone suffering from OCD. You must include: • The person’s obsessions and compulsions • How the disorder is interfering with the persons life • The possible cause for their compulsions • Possible treatment options for the person • You will be graded on your creativity, effort and proper use of class time. This assignment is worth TEN points.
HOMEWORK • (COPY THIS DOWN) • INTERVIEW 2 people bout their perceptions of psychological disorders. • Ask each person why they think people have disorders, what the best treatment options are, and how they feel when they are around people who have a disorder. • Record the notes from the interview in your journal. Also include who you interviewed • Don’t fake it.
